Dear friends,

our association WDSACA (Wheelchair Dance Sport Association Canada) is participating in Vancouver Challenge Cup dance competition next year.

The tournament will be held on January 2017 in Vancouver, and it includes a mini tournament for ballroom dancing in wheelchairs. This competition will be the first in British Columbia and only the second in Canada.

It is our dream to invite wheelchair dancers from all across Canada, as well as dancers from countries where Wheelchair Dance Sport is very well developed, to compete together in Vancouver. One of those countries is Ukraine.

We would like to find sponsors for the Ukrainian team’s trip to Vancouver Challenge Cup competition in Vancouver. The Ukrainian wheelchair dancesport team is ready to participate in the Vancouver Challenge Cup in 2017. They already asked for help to find a sponsor for their visit to Vancouver this January.

In return, Ukrainian able-bodied dancers and their partners in wheelchairs will assist with dance workshops during their stay in our city.

In Canada, wheelchair ballroom dancing is not yet developed. There are no wheelchair dance coaches, and there are not many who are interested in this sport at all. Some Canadian provinces have one or at most two pairs of COMBI. COMBI consists of the able body more or less experienced dancer with his or her partner in a wheelchair.

Despite the difficult situation in their homeland, wheelchair dancers from Ukraine are leaders in the major world competitions. Our association would very much like to invite Ukrainians to our tournament, but unfortunately, we cannot ask the organizers to sponsor them. At present, sponsorship is only available to top level dance couples.

Wheelchair Dance Sport in Canada is yet something new, and many regular dance tournament organizers are not familiar with it. We are very lucky to get to participate in Vancouver Challenge Cup. Even though we will only have 10 minutes from two and a half days to compete, we have to start somewhere and we believe this is a great start.

P.S. As funding is limited, Ukrainian coach Sergei Marchenko has agreed to select only two couples from the entire team.
